SUMMARY OF POSITION
The CNC Machinist III is responsible for creating and maintaining CNC programs. Must be able to set-up, modify, run, and maintain lathe machines production, tooling, maintenance, and inspection projects. Produce parts within required tolerances and specifications meeting customer and quality requirements
Reports to the Supervisor, Operations, Machining.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
CNC Programming - 50%
Creates and/or updates CNC programs, set-up work instructions, tool sheets and other documentation related to the manufacturing process, using company-standard software applications.
Sets-up and operates CNC and secondary equipment in order to prove-out the operation, troubleshoots and revises programs, and ensures all tooling is available.
Reviews designs for manufacturability relative to a specific operation, and adds or revises specifications as needed, including GD&T.
Be a reference and training resource for production employees.
Production – 30%
Independently sets up, troubleshoot and operate machines to support production demand.
Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
Inspecting equipment to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
Recognizes processing and tooling issues, reviews related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Utilizes time management skills to perform job efficiently.
Utilizes reading comprehension, knowledge of mathematics, and use of active listening skills.
Collaborates with Leads, Supervisors, Engineers, Production Control, Quality and other manufacturing departments to resolve assignments and/or machining or quality issues.
Ensures that all responsibilities and functions performed are in accordance with company policy procedures and meet the quality standards.
Engineering Support – 20%
Assists with the design of fixtures, tools and processes to complete jobs in the most cost effective and timely manner.
Generates creative solutions, translates concepts and information into real and practical applications.
Responsible for problem solving and applying creative approaches to machining and manufacturing challenges.
Investigates root cause of customer and/or supplier rejections and internal quality failures, as well as helps to disposition non-conforming parts and implement effective corrective action as required.
Assists with planning of manufacturing processes.
Regular and predictable attendance required.
Any other duty, task and responsibility as assigned or required
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 10 years of experience
Minimum 5 years of programming experience
Lean experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficient performing set-ups on CNC equipment.
Use of CAD solid models in order to generate and modify part models.
Proficient in the understanding and interpretation of blueprints with GD&T.
Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Root Cause Analysis, implementation of effective preventive and corrective actions.
Ability to measure parts using non-digital micrometer, caliper, comparator and other measuring instruments and equipment
Must be organized and detail oriented.
Ability to work in a stressful and fast paced, quality oriented work environment with little supervision
Must be available to work overtime and weekends.
Basic Math Skills
Repetitive use of hands and fingers
Must read, write, and speak English
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
High School Diploma or GED, preferred
Degree or Certificate in Engineering or Programming, preferred
