Position Title:  CNC Machinist Lead


Manager:    General Shop Foreman


Important Working Relationships:  President, Sales Manager, General Shop Foreman, Quality Assurance, Production Control, COMPANY Employees, Customers, Vendors


Primary Responsibilities: 
Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in custom-machining metallic and nonmetallic workpieces to produce, maintain, or repair parts for customer requirements, machines, molds, and equipment, applying knowledge of machine shop procedures, programming knowledge, variety of machine-tool setup and operating techniques, metal and plastic properties, and custom-machining methods.  May supervise workers in related processes, such as forming, welding, testing, or assembling.

 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  By Priority Grouping
 
Group I
Studies Schedules, schedules jobs, details job process plans for each job, both man and machine, to satisfy customer delivery requirements by performing the following management duties:
  1. General running of a CNC department.
  2. Lead role in problem solving manufacturing issues for Set Up Personnel and Machine operators.
  3. Oversees department product quality and visual appearance of manufactured parts.
  4. Stages jobs for production by: Confirming that programs, inspection sheets, material, cutting tools, and fixturing
  5. Schedules and confirms that appropriate skill level personnel are available to set up and run each job.
  6. Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  7. Programs Jobs for Swiss, Multi Axis Mill turn, and/or 4 & 5 Axis machines, including 3D surfacing.
  8. Confirms that Set Up/Machine Operators are setting up & running jobs within estimated times printed on routers in job folders by reviewing Daily Time Slips for accuracy. 
  9. Confirms that personnel are satisfying COMPANY Quality Responsibilities and Post Production job folder activities.
  10. Recommends measures to improve production methods, lights out performance, equipment performance and utilization, and quality of product.  Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department.
  11. Set Up complex machinery for Swiss and multi axis mill turns, and/or 4 & 5 Axis mills
  12. Assist in process planning and fixture design as needed.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Group II
 
  1. Trains apprentices and new workers. 
  2. Run Jobs.
  3. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  4. Assure Proper Maintenance of Equipment and preventative maintenance schedules by
Employees.  Internally diagnoses equipment problems.
  1. Oversees and/or maintains endmill/cutter stock inventory items.
  2. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and
disciplinary measures. 
 
 
Group III
 
Estimates; requisitions; and inspects incoming materials. 
 
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Training and Experience:  Between 4 and 10 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship.
Minimum 5 Yrs Shop Floor Management Experience.
