POSITION TITLE: CNC Swiss Lathe Programmer
POSITION SUMMARY:
Programs a variety of CNC machines including CNC Mill Turn, CNC Swiss, CNC Lathe, CNC Mills with 3,4 or 5 Axis, to machine metallic and nonmetallic workpieces. Applies knowledge of machine shop procedures, programming knowledge, variety of machine-tool setup and operating techniques. Trouble shoots programs with operators to set up and run the various machines using the correct speeds, feeds, and tools to assure the machine is operating at its peak performance as well as assuring that the completed work meets all customer requirements. Sets up and operates a variety of machines to mill and/or turn metallic and nonmetallic workpieces to produce, maintain, or repair parts for customer requirements, applying knowledge of machine shop procedures, a variety of machine-tool setup and operating techniques, metal and plastic properties, and custom-machining methods. Troubleshoots set ups and run and modifies NC Code to improve job performance.

Programs Jobs for CNC Machines using CAM system.
Studies blueprints or layout on work piece to determine sequence of operations and finished dimensions of work piece.
Selects correct cutting tools needed for each job.
Selects feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut, and milling cutter, applying knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
Writes Set Up Documentation
Design custom fixtures and cutting tools required.
Trouble shoots programs and jobs
Confirms that programed jobs are running within estimated times printed on routers in job folders.
Follows company procedures for quality and job requirements, including, but not limited to:
First Article Inspections,
In Process Inspections,
Set Up Sheets,
Machine time sheets
Daily time slips, and
Job folder step sign off’s.
Confirm that job folder paperwork and routers are filled in/completed properly before going to Quality Control for final inspection, if running job to completion.This includes:
Qty Made on Router
Steps signed off for inspection status and qty good and bad.
Tooling inventory location logged in ‘Part Notes’ section of job router upon completion of job
Confirm that Tooling Inventory Log is completed with Job # and Shelf location in Tooling Log, if running job to completion.
Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product, and suggests changes to increase efficiency of jobs.
Assist management to implement automation and programming requirements.
Analyzes work problems and provides problem solving.
Group II
Assist in training new workers.
Set Up Machines to assist production when needed.
Mounts tools in tool holders/turret/spindle, and positions cutter and work piece in relation to each other.
Sets up highly complex 8-13 Axis CNC Swiss Screw machines and CNC Mill Turns.
Analyzes work problems and provides problem solving thru troubleshooting process and programs. Modifies NC Code as required to improve effectiveness of the job.
Confirms that their jobs are running within estimated times printed on routers in job folders.
Plan work for lights out manufacturing and maintains machines
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Training and Experience: Minimum 10 years’ experience setting up and running a Variety of CNC Machine named above. An Additional minimum 5 years’ experience programming using a CAM system (MasterCAM &/OR GibbsCAM Preferred).
High School Diploma.
Physical Demands: The employee is required to:
- stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
- exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
- exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
- exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Licenses Required: None
Visual Acuity: Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts.
Hearing Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.
